Express bus accident kills 3, injures 13 in eastern Myanmar

YANGON, June 17 (Xinhua) -- Three passengers were killed with 13 others injured in an express bus accident in Myanmar's Shan state on Wednesday, said a release from the Fire Services Department.

The accident took place in Nawnghkio township in early hours of Wednesday.

With 16 passengers on board, the express bus fell from a mountain road and overturned due to the brake failure on Gote Twin road section of Pyidaungsu Highway at 3:30 a.m. local time.

"The whole body of the bus was seriously damaged in the mishap and operation of the road has resumed after rescue works," a Phyu Sin Myittar Social Development Organization member, who did the rescue operation at the scene, told Xinhua.

The injured were sent to the Nawnghkio township general hospital for treatment, the department's release said. Enditem
