The United States has suffered the most from the pandemic, with 2,228,368 cases and 119,241 deaths.

NEW YORK, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Global confirmed COVID-19 cases topped 8.7 million on Saturday, reaching 8,705,724 as of 12:33 p.m. (1633 GMT), according to data compiled by the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

Meanwhile, the death toll rose to 461,037 worldwide, the data showed.

The United States has suffered the most from the pandemic, with 2,228,368 cases and 119,241 deaths. Brazil's total cases have surpassed 1 million, reaching 1,032,913, only second to the U.S. caseload, according to the CSSE.

Other countries with over 200,000 cases include Russia, India, Britain, Spain, Peru, Italy, Chile and Iran, according to the tally.
