BEIJING, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Liaoning Flying Leopards have decided to activate former NBA guard O.J. Mayo to play in their upcoming matches in the 2019-20 Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) season.

The CBA announced Mayo's activation in a statement, also emphasizing that the Liaoning side would not be regarded as an all-domestic team. Current regulations stipulate that teams have to limit the playing time of overseas players against those with an all-domestic roster.

Due to current restrictions on international travel, Liaoning's overseas duo of Lance Stephenson and Brandon Bass are unable to make their way back to China.

A club source had revealed before the CBA's resumption that Liaoning could activate Mayo "in due time", but Liaoning's loss to the Beijing Ducks on Saturday, the opening day after the league's restart, pushed the club to accelerate their decision.

Mayo, 32, has been training with Liaoning for over two months. Following an eight-year stint in the NBA, Mayo has played in several overseas leagues, including for China's second-tier side Hunan. Enditem
