RIO DE JANEIRO, June 21 (Xinhua) -- Eight Corinthians players have been isolated after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, the Brazilian club announced Sunday.

The names of the players were not disclosed and the club did not reveal their condition, saying only that each case was being monitored by doctors.

The Sao Paulo club conducted 190 tests on players, coaches, staff and their relatives in three days.

The Folha de S.Paulo newspaper reported that 21 of the 27 players in Corinthians' first-team squad were found to have been in contact with the virus because of the existence of antibodies.

Brazilian football was suspended in mid-March because of the global pandemic.

On Thursday, Rio de Janeiro's state league became the first local competition to resume when Flamengo beat Bangu 3-0 at the Maracana Stadium.

Clubs in Sao Paulo have been authorized to restart training in groups on July 1, though there has been no date set for a return to competitive matches.

Brazil has more than one million confirmed coronavirus cases, over 50,000 of which have been fatal. Enditem
