UNITED NATIONS, June 22 (Xinhua) -- The members of the United Nations Security Council on Monday expressed their solidarity with the government and the people of the Central African Republic (CAR) in the face of COVID-19, as well as their support to the efforts to respond to the pandemic in the country.

They also welcomed the efforts of the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the CAR "to continue delivering on its mandate while ensuring the safety and security of its personnel," according to the Security Council press elements on the CAR pronounced by Nicolas de Riviere, permanent representative of France to the UN.

"They welcomed the progress made in the implementation of the Political Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in the CAR and commended the efforts of the CAR authorities in this regard. They also welcomed the commitment of the African Union (AU) and the Economic Community of Central African States, as guarantors of the agreement, in facilitating its implementation and encouraged their continued support to the peace process," said the press elements.

"They strongly condemned violations of the agreement committed by some armed groups, including attacks against civilians, suspension of participation to the agreement and fights over territories," the press elements added. Enditem
