Fiji-China Friendship Association donates medical supplies to help battle COVID-19

SUVA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- The Fiji-China Friendship Association donated on Wednesday 136,250 Fijian dollars (about 62,906.6 U.S. dollars) worth of medical supplies to Fiji to help battle COVID-19.

During the handover ceremony held here on Wednesday, Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama thanked the Chinese government and the Chinese community for their donation to assist the frontline workers in the island nation.

"Thank you for this wonderful donation that will help our frontline workers, assist them with the work that they do every day," he said.

For his part, Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo said it was not the end of the Chinese cooperating with the Fijian government but a new beginning.

The ambassador added that the Chinese government remained committed to providing the necessary support in all areas.

"Our next priority is the post-COVID-19 period and how China can facilitate the Fijian people and the country to recover economically," he said.

Wu Fangfang, president of the Fiji-China Friendship Association, said the relationship between China and Fiji has been further enhanced during this COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the Chinese community, the Fiji-China Friendship Association would like to assist the Fijian government and the people in combating this pandemic, she said.

According to Wu, the medical supplies, which range from disposable medical masks, protective clothing, protective shields, protective goggles, disposable gloves and hand sanitizer were from the Fiji-China Friendship Association and the China Chamber of Commerce in Fiji. Enditem
