ASEAN Coordinating Council adopts reports, agrees on summit working agenda

HANOI, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Six reports of the secretary-general of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and community pillars submitted to the upcoming 36th ASEAN Summit slated for Friday were adopted at the 26th ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting held via video conference on Wednesday, Vietnam News Agency reported.

At the meeting, ASEAN foreign ministers assessed the ASEAN cooperation process in the first six months of 2020. Recognizing the positive results ASEAN has achieved since the beginning of the year despite the COVID-19 epidemic, the ministers reasserted their determination to maintain collaboration and endeavor to achieve set goals.

The ministers agreed on the scheduled activities and working agenda of the ASEAN leaders, and on list of documents to be presented at this summit.

During the video conference, Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh recommended ASEAN countries to approve the Terms of Reference (TOR) on the establishment of the ASEAN's COVID-19 response fund and agree on the policy of building ASEAN's recovery plan.

Founded in 1967, the ASEAN groups 10 member countries, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. Enditem
