ANKARA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Culture and Tourism Minister Mehmet Ersoy on Wednesday announced new measures in the tourism sector to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
The minister revealed that more than 727 hotels and 900 restaurants have applied for the "Safe Tourism Certificate" which can prove they have made standard precautions to prevent the spread of the pandemic, semi-official Anadolu Agency reported.
He also said the ministry would send officials to disguise as "hidden guests" to inspect the hotels and restaurants.
The country will also launch coronavirus testing centers in its international airports by July 1, said the minister.
Turkey also introduced a health insurance system for travels of foreigners and Turkish citizens abroad, he said, noting that the insurance will cover other diseases as well.
Turkey has informed other countries about the health infrastructure, ensuring them that Turkey is safe for tourism, he added. Enditem
