MADRID, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Former Real Madrid and Spain midfielder Jose Maria Gutierrez 'Guti' was sacked as head coach of Spanish second division outfit Almeria on Friday, putting an end his first experience as a team boss.
Guti lost his job in the wake of Thursday night's 1-0 defeat to Alcorcon, and leaves Almeria with the club third in the table, five points behind second-placed Zaragoza but with a seven-point cushion over Rayo Vallecano, who are the first team outside of the promotion play-off spots.
Guti, who made over 540 first team appearances for Real Madrid during a 15-year-career, was appointed Almeria boss in November 2019 after the club sacked Pedro Emanuel, despite then sitting second in the table. Enditem
