NANCHANG/HEFEI, June 26 (Xinhua) -- Floods have wreaked havoc in east China's Jiangxi and Anhui provinces.

In Jiangxi, floods since Tuesday had affected 526,000 people in 45 counties, cities and districts by 4 p.m. Friday, with 42,000 people evacuated and 10,000 in need of emergency life supplies, according to the provincial department of emergency management.

The floods damaged 38,300 hectares of crops, toppled 61 houses and severely damaged 100 houses, leading to an initial direct economic loss of 1.02 billion yuan (about 144.1 million U.S. dollars).

Heavy downpours are on the wane, according to the latest weather forecast.

In Anhui Province, days of heavy rain had pushed water currents to exceed warning levels in some rivers.

By 6 a.m. Friday, 201 reservoirs in Anhui had seen their water levels surpass flood season limits. Authorities are releasing the floodwater.
