Kyrgyzstan reports 279 new COVID-19 cases

BISHKEK, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Kyrgyzstan announced on Tuesday 279 new COVID-19 cases, bringing its total to 5,296.

Of the new cases, two are imported, and the rest 277 are contacts of confirmed patients, said Deputy Health Minister Mademin Karataev at a daily news briefing, adding that 47 of the new infections are medical workers, which raised the total number of contracted medical employees to 830.

In addition, 76 people were discharged from hospitals over the past day, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,370, including 442 medical workers. There were also seven new virus-related deaths, raising the total number of fatalities to 57, Karataev added.

Meanwhile, 721 people remained hospitalized with 23 in intensive care, and 2,148 asymptomatic patients are under home quarantine.

Bishkek, the country's capital city and worst-hit region, reported 182 new cases, taking its tally of infections to 2,199. Enditem
