KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia reported two new COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, bringing the national total to 8,639, the Health Ministry said.

Health Ministry Director-General Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a press statement that one of the new cases is imported and the other is a local transmission. Both involved Malaysian citizens.

A total of 20 patients have been discharged, bringing the total cured and discharged to 8,354 or 96.7 percent of all cases.

Among the 164 active cases, four are being held in intensive care units and one is in need of assisted breathing.

No new deaths had been reported, leaving the total deaths at 121.

As more social sectors and activities like cinemas, theme parks are allowed to resume from July 1, Noor Hisham urged the public to cooperate by following standard operating procedure and other measures to break the infection chain and not to be complacent as the disease is still widespread globally.
