LONDON, June 30 (Xinhua) -- Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF) has launched sustainability in sport on Tuesday, a web portal dedicated to sustainability issues such as climate change, economic inequality and social injustice.
GAISF, supported by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), created the portal to help further sport's sustainability goals by providing a free tool where sustainability resources from the entire sports community can be collated onto one dedicated platform.
GAISF President Raffaele Chiulli said: "Sustainability must be at the heart of sport, and this will be more important than ever in a post-COVID-19 environment as we look for shared solutions to shared problems. The creation of this sustainability portal marks an important milestone in our united journey to continue to impact society in this area positively."
Founded in 1967, GAISF now has 125 members, associate members and observers, which include both Olympic and non-Olympic sports organizations.
"As the united voice of sports, we felt it was only right that GAISF created a service to help support our members in their incredible efforts to promote sustainability issues. We hope that this platform will not only serve the global sports community but will also prove to be an invaluable tool for the wider community," said Chiulli.
Sustainability is one of the three pillars of Olympic Agenda 2020 - the strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement. The other two components are credibility and youth.
IOC Sports Director Kit McConnell said: "This platform will form an important part of these efforts. We look forward to our continued cooperation with GAISF to ensure that sport is an impactful player in today's global sustainability efforts." Enditem
