TOKYO, July 2 (Xinhua) -- Tokyo stocks opened fractionally higher Thursday, tracking U.S. shares' advance overnight as an uptick in factory activity bolstered sentiment, while hopes for a new COVID-19 vaccine allayed fears after the United States saw its biggest one-day spike in virus cases.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average edged up 19.40 points, or 0.09 percent, from Wednesday to 22,141.13.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 5.04 points, or 0.33 percent, at 1,543.65.

Air transportation, miscellaneous product and transportation equipment-linked issues led notable gainers in the opening minutes after the morning bell. Enditem
