Brazil's COVID-19 death toll exceeds 60,000, infections surpass 1.4 mln

RIO DE JANEIRO, July 1 (Xinhua) -- Brazil's COVID-19 death toll climbed to 60,632 on Wednesday after 1,038 more patients died on the previous day, the country's health ministry said.

The number of COVID-19 infections in the country rose to 1,448,753 after 46,712 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours, the ministry added.

A total of 826,866 people, or 57.07 percent of the total cases, have recovered from the disease since the start of the outbreak in Brazil.

The most populous state of Sao Paulo is the most heavily affected by the virus, with 289,935 cases and 15,030 deaths, followed by Rio de Janeiro with 115,278 cases and 10,198 deaths, and Ceara with 113,017 cases and 6,180 deaths. Enditem
