COVID-19 cases in Uganda pass 900 mark

KAMPALA, July 2 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Uganda has reached 902 after nine new cases were recorded on Thursday, the ministry of health said here.

Out of the 1,958 samples collected from cross-border cargo truck drivers and communities over the past 24 hours, two Ugandan truck drivers and seven contact cases tested positive for the virus, said the statement.

Additionally, 27 foreign truck drivers who tested positive for COVID-19 at Uganda's common borders were handed over to their respective countries of origin, according to the ministry.

The ministry said the number of patients who have recovered from the virus now stands at 847 in the country.

Uganda has not registered any COVID-19 related death since the index case was reported on March 21. Enditem
