CHICAGO, July 2 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Ford Motor Co.'s new vehicles sales dropped 33 percent in the second quarter, the Dearborn-based automaker announced on Thursday.

Ford sold 433,869 vehicles in the second quarter, down from 650,336 sold in the same period of last year. The retail sales went down less than 14.3 percent.

Sales of profitable F-Series were 180,825 units, down 22.7 percent from the same period of last year. Nevertheless, the F-Series expanded its leadership position in the second quarter with an estimated 2.6-percentage-point increase in retail share.

Ford Explorer led as the best-selling midsize SUV in June, with overall Explorer sales up 12 percent year on year.

Affected by COVID-19, Ford shifted to online and remote sales in the second quarter, which helped grow its retail share by an estimated full percentage point to 13.3 percent, Ford's best retail share quarter in five years, the Detroit News reported. Enditem
