263 Mongolian nationals back home from Japan amid pandemic

ULAN BATOR, July 5 (Xinhua) -- A total of 263 Mongolian nationals onboard a chartered flight arrived Saturday at the Chinggis Khaan International Airport from Japan amid the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the country's State Emergency Commission (SEC).

The passengers consisted of pregnant women, the elderly, children, students, and those with financial, health and other problems, the SEC said, adding that they will be isolated at designated facilities for 21 days.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, Mongolia has chartered flights and evacuated about 12,000 nationals from different parts of the world. This month, the country is expected to evacuate around 3,000 nationals on chartered flights.

According to the National Center for Communicable Diseases, Mongolia has confirmed 220 COVID-19 cases, all of which are imported, mostly from Russia, and it has not reported any local transmissions or deaths so far. Enditem
