NAY PYI TAW, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar striker Win Theingi Tun expressed her hope of helping with women's football development in her country in a recent interview with FIFA's website.
Myanmar reached the third round of Women's Olympic Football Tournament Asian qualifiers for the first time. Win, scoring nine times during the process, drew the most attention.
However, she was injured in the lead-up to February's campaign in South Korea and had to watch as her side first lost 7-0 against the experienced hosts before falling to Vietnam by a solitary goal to crash out.
"Unfortunately I didn't play due to an injury. We had a good opportunity and we let it slip away after losing to Vietnam," said the 25-year-old.
Win started playing football when she was 12. She came up through the ranks earning her first national team call in 2014. Now with 53 international goals, she is Myanmar's all-time top scorer.
"Our people love football and the women's game is growing fast in Myanmar these years, particularly since the launch of the women's league," Win said. "It provides the young girls the opportunity to pursue their football dreams."
"Nowadays, women's football is drawing increasing attention from media and all walks of life. I want to try my best to help with the women's game of our country. I am seriously thinking of establishing a women's football academy in the future if I have the chance." Enditem
