Chile's COVID-19 cases reach 298,557, death toll hits 6,384

SANTIAGO, July 6 (Xinhua) -- Chile on Monday reported an accumulated 298,557 cases of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) infection since the outbreak began.

The COVID-19 death toll climbed to 6,384 after 76 more patients died from the disease in the previous 24-hour period, according to the Ministry of Health.

In the same period, tests detected 3,025 new cases of infection, including 2,354 people with symptoms and 404 people who were asymptomatic.

Some 27,804 cases are reported to be active, while a total of 264,371 former COVID-19 patients are considered to have recovered.

Chile declared a state of catastrophe months ago to better enforce lockdown and social distancing measures with the help of the army and police force, including a nighttime curfew. Enditem
