HOUSTON, July 6 (Xinhua) -- The southern U.S. county of Dallas reported 1,214 COVID-19 cases on Monday, marking the fourth-straight day with cases surpassing 1,000, local officials said.

There were 105 new hospitalizations related with the novel coronavirus in the past day, the biggest daily jump up to date, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a statement, mentioning that another six people have died from the virus in the past day.

Jenkins said "a new milestone in the number of new COVID-19 cases" was reached, while officials must "watch closely" the hospitalizations number.

"We are seeing rampant spread," Jenkins said.
