2 killed, 24 others injured in train collision in Czech Republic

PRAGUE, July 7 (Xinhua) -- At least two people were killed and 24 others injured when two passenger trains collided near Pernink Village in the northwest of the Czech Republic on Tuesday, local media reported.

Of those injured, 9 had medium or severe injuries, reports said.

The trains collided less than one kilometer from Pernink station at about 3 p.m. local time, according to the Czech News Agency (CTK). A passenger train from Karlovy Vary to Johanngeorgenstadt, Germany collided with a passenger train in the opposite direction. A total of 33 people, including staff, traveled on both trains.
