AMSTERDAM, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Innovative space for the public will be provided during the King of the Court beach volleyball event in Utrecht, Netherlands in order to maintain the safe social distance, says the event's host body.

This event, scheduled from September 9 to 12, is the first international beach volleyball event in the world and the first international top sports event on Dutch soil since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the host body's website, a stadium will be specially built for this event with the spectators' area that fully consists of "skyboxes built from building material."

The skyboxes are available for a maximum of two people and can be reserved in advance.

"We welcome the efforts of the organizers and the Dutch government in hosting the event but also ensuring the health and well-being of the athletes and all other participants," says Ary S. Graca, the president of the world volleyball governing body FIVB.

A total of 30 teams per gender will participate in King of the Court, including the current best men's team, the Norwegian duo of Anders Mol and Christian Sorum.

The King of the Court is a new beach volleyball variant that has many differences from regular beach volleyball. The new discipline is more fast-paced with five teams active simultaneously instead of two. Teams are eliminated after each loss. Enditem
