RAMALLAH, July 8 (Xinhua) -- A senior Palestinian official said on Wednesday that Israel exerts pressure on the Palestinian Authority to resume security cooperation in the West Bank.

Yousef Harb, undersecretary of the Palestinian Ministry of Interior, told Xinhua that Israel deliberately disturbed the Palestinian security apparatuses' missions in the West Bank.

Two months ago, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas declared the abolition of all agreements and understandings reached with Israel, including the freezing of security cooperation in the Palestinian territories between the two sides.

Abbas made his decision in protest against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's plan of annexing parts of the West Bank lands and imposing Israeli sovereignty on it.

"Since the Palestinian leadership has decided to freeze security coordination with Israel, the Israeli army has been putting obstacles to disturb the missions of the Palestinian security apparatuses, mainly in the area (C) in the West Bank," said Harb.

Israel and the Palestinians signed on Oslo peace accords in 1993, which divided the West Bank to areas (A), (B), and (C). According to the accords, area (C) is under full Israeli security control. Enditem
