Spectacular aerial view of oldest temple in Tibet, China

The Samye Monastery in Shannan City is believed to be the oldest temple in Tibet and is known as the birthplace of the Nyingmapa sect of the Tibetan Buddhism. The temple was built in the 8th century by King Trisong Detsen. It sits on the northern bank of Yarlung Zangbo River. It has been put under national-level protection since 1996.
