RIYADH, July 9 (Xinhua) -- The Entrepreneurship World Cup (EWC) announced on Thursday the extension of the deadline from July 12 to Aug. 2 to welcome more competitors from around the world for its second edition.

Aiming to expand beyond the 102,000 contestants which participated in its first competition in 2019, this year's EWC is accepting applications from around the world, the EWC said in a statement.

The EWC is a diverse global pitch competition for entrepreneurs and startups.

Last year, two Chinese startups finished in the Top 10 of the 2019 competition, namely Changsha Intelligent Driving Research Institute (CiDi) and Tensortec.

Four more Chinese startups recached the 2019 Global Finals including Dingxiang Technologies, Huanaco Innovation Co., Ltd., ICLegend Micro, and Spacety.

"The EWC is an eye-opening event for me, which opens up a big world full of opportunities. There are so many people who need help and so many business potentials," said Ma Wei, CEO of CiDi.

"The EWC inspires me a lot to build a global view even if we are just a start-up company," said Hu Yunxing, CEO of Huanaco Innovation Co., Ltd.

During this year's EWC, up to 25 virtual competitions will first be held throughout the summer over COVID-19 concerns and then 100 entrants will advance to the global finals in October in the Saudi capital Riyadh.

The EWC is hosted by the Misk Global Forum, the flagship international platform of the Misk Foundation which is a non-profit philanthropic foundation established by Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud to discover, develop and empower Saudi youths. Enditem
