Vietnam's animal feed import down 10.3 pct in 6 months

HANOI, July 10 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam spent approximately 1.7 billion U.S. dollars importing animal feeds and materials for animal feed production in the first half of this year, down 10.3 percent against the same period last year, according to the General Department of Vietnam Customs on Friday.

Its largest suppliers included Argentina, Brazil, China and the United States.

Last year, Vietnam spent more than 3.7 billion U.S. dollars importing animal feeds and materials for animal feed production, down 5.1 percent on-year, with the biggest import markets being Argentina, Brazil, China and the United States, said the department.

Meanwhile, between January and June, Vietnam imported more than 1.8 million tons of wheat worth 470 million U.S. dollars, seeing respective year-on-year surges of 49.3 percent and 37.6 percent, and spent 982 million U.S. dollars importing nearly 4.7 million tons of corn, up 2.7 percent and 2.3 percent respectively.
