DAMASCUS, July 10 (Xinhua) -- The Syrian army foiled a massive rebel attack in the country's northwestern province of Latakia on Friday, the army said in a statement.
The Turkey-backed rebels launched a wide-scale offensive on military sites north of the town of Rabia in the countryside of Latakia, said the statement, which was carried by state news agency SANA.
It said the army foiled the attack and inflicted hefty tolls on the rebel groups.
No casualties have been reported on the Syrian army side, said the statement, adding that the rebels used various types of weapons.
Various rebel groups are located in the northern countryside of Latakia, on top of which is the al-Qaida-linked Nusra Front. Enditem
