BRATISLAVA, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Slovan Bratislava ended a successful season as champions of the Slovak Fortuna Liga with a goalless draw against Trnava on Saturday.

In the relegation group, last-ranked Nitra managed to secure an unexpected 3-0 victory over group leaders Trencin but remained on the bottom.

After crowning the shortened season with a triumph in the Slovnaft Cup on Wednesday, champions Slovan Bratislava had little motivation in the last round against its traditional rival from Trnava and ended the season with a goalless draw.

The only team from Slovakia thus secured a spot in the upcoming Champion's League qualifiers and won the right to lift the coveted league trophy after the game.

Bratislava's Slovenian striker Andraz Sporar retained the title of the league's top scorer with 12 goals despite transferring to Sporting Lisbon in January for more than seven million euros. The team from Slovakia's capital also boasts the best goalkeeper of the season.

23-year-old Dominik Greif led several statistical categories, including most shutouts (12), the longest streak without conceding a goal (725 minutes), least number of goals conceded in the season (13) and least goals conceded per game (0.7).

Dunajska Streda was eyeing Zilina's second place and finished the season with a 1-0 victory in Ruzomberok.

The visitors had the best scoring chance in the 59th minute when Zsolt Kalmar got fouled in the penalty box but he failed to capitalize from the spot.

Twenty minutes later, his Venezuelan teammate Eric Ramirez rectified his mistake and scored on a breakaway.

Zilina stayed in second place after a crushing 5-0 triumph over Michalovce. Five different goal scorers provided the silver lining for the last game in the career of Zilina's captain Viktor Pecovsky, a former member of Slovakia's national squad who played an unprecedented total of 422 Fortuna Liga matches in his 20 years in the league.

Both Zilina and Dunajska Streda secured a spot in the upcoming Europa League qualifiers.

In the Relegation Group, Nitra drew the short straw despite a valiant 3-0 victory over the group leaders Trencin. The visitors broke Trencin's resistance in the second half, scoring three goals within 10 minutes.

Despite the surprising victory, Nitra ended up last with a one-point deficit behind Pohronie.

The penultimate team in the league produced a solid three-win run at the end of the season and secured a spot in the next year's edition of Fortuna Liga. Patrik Abraham provided the game-winner against Senica late in the second half.

Nitra will have to face the winner of Slovakia's second-tier league Dubnica in the middle of July. The winner of the match-up will earn a spot in the top tier for next season.

A single goal also determined the match between second-ranked Zlate Moravce and third-placed Sered. Andras Meszaros capitalized on a rebound to help his team end the season a high note. Enditem
