JERUSALEM, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Israel's military said on Sunday it has launched a new Special Forces Wing that will include the Air Force's special forces to increase its "operational effectiveness."

The new unit, dubbed Wing 7, was inaugurated in a ceremony at the Palmahim Air Force base, south of Tel Aviv. The ceremony was attended by Commanding Officer of the Israel Air Force Amikam Norkin.

The wing was established "in light of operational needs and changing and growing threats in the various theatres," the military's Spokesperson's Unit said in a statement.

"The establishment of this wing brings into action a conceptual and organizational change," the statement read.

"This organizational change will allow high-quality and close operational cooperation between the special units and extensive learning to enhance their capabilities," according to the military.

According to Norkin, the change was made "after a long and detailed staff process." He added that the new unit will bring "an enhanced capability that will make our special forces more effective during combat, more influential in terms of air superiority, and part of any process or scenario that takes place in the IAF (Israel Air Force)."

Israel's air force has been carrying out multiple fatal airstrikes in Syria over the past years, with Israel charging the attacks target sites belong to Iran, which Israel considers its arch-foe. Enditem
