KIGALI, July 16 (Xinhua) -- The Rwanda Defense Force (RDF) on Wednesday expressed condolence over the killing of a Rwandan peacekeeper in Monday's attack on the UN peacekeepers in the Central African Republic (CAR).

The RDF said in a statement that they are "deeply saddened" by the death of the fallen peacekeeper, who was serving under the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the CAR (MINUSCA).

The attack on a MINUSCA convoy by alleged Return, Reclamation and Rehabilitation armed elements occurred in Gedze in the northwestern prefecture of Nana-Mambere on Monday, also injuring two others.

The RDF expressed its "heartfelt condolences" to the family and friends of the fallen peacekeeper, adding that RDF peacekeepers remain committed to the protection of civilians within the mandate of MINUSCA and the other peacekeeping missions under which its troops serve.

The central African nation is currently one of the biggest troop and police contributing countries in support of the UN and the AU peacekeeping mandates. Enditem
