BEIJING, July 18 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai customs busted three gangs of refined oil smugglers, with the arrest of 51 suspects and the seizure of four ships and 2,000 tonnes of refined oil, according to the General Administration of Customs.
The gangs obtained refined oil from foreign ships on the high seas and illegally smuggled it into the country, waiting for a chance to sell the oil in the Yangtze River Delta region.
An initial investigation found that the gangs had smuggled 160,000 tonnes of refined oil totaling 1.2 billion yuan (about 171 million U.S. dollars).
Further investigation is underway. Enditem
