Confirmed COVID-19 cases top 216,000 in Bangladesh, deaths reach 2,801

DHAKA, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh reported 2,856 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, taking the total to 216,110, with 2,801 deaths so far.

"2,856 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 216,110," Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana said in a briefing Thursday afternoon.

According to the official, 12,398 samples were tested in the last 24 hours in labs across the country.

"50 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh and total fatalities stood at 2,801," she added.

According to the official, the COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is now 1.30 percent. The current recovery rate is 54.16 percent in the country.

The total number of recovered patients in the country now stands at 119,208, including 2,006 on Thursday, said Sultana.

Bangladesh recorded highest 4,019 cases in a 24-hour period on July 2.

And the country reported the highest 64 deaths of COVID-19 patients in a day on June 30. Enditem
