GUIYANG, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Around 20 ancient tombs, which are believed to date back to the Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368), were recently discovered in southwest China's Guizhou Province.

Workers at a construction site in Hongqi Village, Zunyi City, excavated several large processed stone on July 15 and later found a tomb with two chambers on site. Some well-preserved stone carvings were discovered at the back of one chamber and a niche in another.

Archaeologists launched a preliminary investigation and said the style of the stone carving pattern showed obvious characteristics of the Yuan Dynasty.

More tombs were also unearthed around the area.

So far, the construction project has been suspended. Local cultural relics and archaeology departments are making a plan for the excavation and protection of the ancient tomb cluster. Enditem
