KABUL, July 27 (Xinhua) -- Five Taliban bomb experts were killed during the airstrikes conducted by the Afghan Air Force in two provinces, the command of Afghan Special Forces said on Monday.

"Three armed militants were killed in Nahri Saraaj district of southern Helmand province and two armed militants were killed in Shindand district of western Herat province during airstrikes Sunday," Afghan National Army Special Operations Corps said in a statement.

The targeted militants were planting Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) to target innocent civilians and security force members, the statement added.

Militants in Afghanistan have been using home-made IEDs to make roadside bombs and landmines to target security forces, but the lethal weapons also inflict casualties on civilians.

A 12-year-old boy was killed when a pressure-plate IED detonated in Pul-e-Khumri, capital of northern Baghlan province earlier on Monday. Enditem
