S.Korea’s export volume posts single-digit fall in June

SEOUL, July 28 (Xinhua) -- South Korea’s export volume posted a single-digit fall last month on robust demand for chemical and electronic products, central bank data showed Tuesday.

In terms of volume, the outbound shipment shed 1.4 percent in June from a year earlier, according to the Bank of Korea (BOK).

The falling pace was down from declines of 13.2 percent in April and 15.0 percent in May each.

Export volume for chemical products advanced 19.6 percent in the month, with the figure for computers, electronic and optical devices expanding 7.9 percent.

In terms of volume, shipment for transport equipment and textile products tumbled 35.3 percent and 19.2 percent respectively.

The export value shrank 10.5 percent in June from a year earlier, keeping a downward trend for the fourth straight month.

In terms of value, export for oil products and transport equipment plunged 46.7 percent and 36.6 percent each on cheaper crude oil and weak global demand.

The import volume grew 6.1 percent in June from a year earlier, making the first rebound in three months.

The import value reduced 11.6 percent in the month, continuing to slide for the third consecutive month due to an economic fallout from the COVID-19 outbreak. Enditem
