BEIRUT, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Lebanese leaders on Tuesday warned against heightened border tensions with Israel, while slamming Israel for attacking southern Lebanon a day earlier, LBCI local TV channel reported.
"The attacks constitute a threat to stability in the south especially that the United Nations Security Council will soon discuss the mandate of the United Nations Interim Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL)," Lebanese President Michel Aoun said during a meeting for the Higher Defense Council at Baabda Palace.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Hassan Diab warned against an increase in tensions on the Lebanese borders with the occupied Palestinian territories.
"The enemy is trying to change the UNIFIL's mandate and the rules of battle with Lebanon," Diab said.
Tensions have increased between Lebanon and Israel after several reports stating that Hezbollah fighters fired a rocket at an Israeli tank and carried out an operation in the occupied Shebaa Farms, sparking heavy clashes in the area.
