BANGKOK, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Thais celebrated King Maha Vajiralongkorn's 68th birthday on Tuesday in a "new normal" fashion, with well-wishers were seen wearing face mask and standing at least one meter apart from one another.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha led his cabinet and heads of government institutions, state enterprises, the private sector and the general public in giving alms to monks at Bangkok's spacious square in Sanam Luang.

Hand sanitizers were available at all entrances.

Several booths were set up to offer services including vocational trainings, as well as free COVID-19 tests.

The prime minister and his wife signed their names in a book extending best wishes to the king at the Grand Palace.

In Pathum Thani province near Bangkok, local officials released about 500,000 fish into the Chao Phraya River.

In central Chachoengsao province, vocational students set up booths to offer free motorcycle maintenance services.

In deep southern Surat Thani province, 699,999 fish were released into the Tapee River to make merit for the king.

Tuesday also marks the last day of a four-day national holiday. Enditem
