MOSCOW, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The crew of the Russian Black Sea Fleet Admiral Makarov frigate has conducted an air defense exercise in the Mediterranean Sea, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement Tuesday.

"In accordance with the scenario of the drills, the frigate's air defense duty crew detected a notional enemy aircraft approaching the ship and performed actions to repel the air attack," the statement said.

The notional target was classified and successfully "destroyed" by simulated electronic launches of anti-aircraft missiles, it said.

The Admiral Makarov frigate has been performing tasks as part of the permanent grouping of the Russian Navy in the Mediterranean Sea since June 2020.

The Admiral Makarov is one of the six Admiral Grigorovich class frigates, with a speed of up to 30 knots and manned by a staff of 180 sailors, is meant to counter ships, submarines and airborne targets. Enditem
