Confirmed COVID-19 cases top 232,000 in Bangladesh, deaths reach 3,035

DHAKA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Bangladesh reported over 3,000 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the total to reach more than 232,000, with 3,035 deaths so far.

"3,009 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the nationwide tally to 232,194," Senior Health Ministry official Nasima Sultana said in a briefing Wednesday afternoon.

According to the official, 14,127 samples were tested in the last 24 hours in labs across the country.

"Thirty-five deaths were reported in the last 24 hours across Bangladesh and total fatalities stood at 3,035," she said.

According to the official, the COVID-19 fatality rate in Bangladesh is now 1.31 percent, while the recovery rate is 56.11 percent.

The total number of recovered patients in the country now stands at 130,292 including 2,878 new recoveries on Wednesday, said Sultana.

Bangladesh recorded the highest 4,019 cases in a 24-hour period on July 2, and the highest 64 deaths in a day on June 30. Enditem
