CAIRO, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Egypt on Wednesday lauded the efforts exerted by both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in seeking a political settlement in Yemen, the country's Foreign Ministry said.
In a statement, Egyptian Foreign Ministry reiterated "keenness of Saudi Arabia to implement the Riyadh deal and the kingdom's initiatives to speed up the pace of concluding a deal between the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council (STC)."
Egypt values the Saudi sincere endeavors that aimed at reaching a cease-fire, boosting the political settlement, activating the state institutions, and achieving peace and stability in Yemen, it added.
"Egypt also commends the role of UAE in resolving the Yemeni war through political channels," the statement noted.
Earlier, Yemen's government and the STC have agreed to accelerate the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement within Saudi proposed mechanisms.
The impoverished Arab country has been locked in a civil war since late 2014, when the Houthis overran much of the country and seized all northern areas including the capital Sanaa. Enditem
