BUDAPEST, July 30 (Xinhua) -- The Hungarian government has decided to maintain the restriction on mass events attended by more than 500 people after Aug. 15, Gergely Gulyas, head of the Prime Minister's Office, said here on Thursday.

"Our goal is to curb the second wave of the epidemic so that the school year can start normally on Sept. 1," Gulyas said at a weekly press briefing.

Most of the restrictions that were introduced to curb the spread of the coronavirus have already been lifted in Hungary.

Gulyas stressed that the government understood the negative impact of this decision on local music industry, and it was willing to help.

"The government will provide 5.3 billion forints (18 million U.S. dollars) in support to the professionals of the music industry, which is in a difficult situation due to the coronavirus epidemic," Gulyas said.

He also called on Hungarian citizens to respect the social distancing rules and the regulations on wearing masks.

According to official figures, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Hungary stood at 4,484 on Thursday, with 3,346 recoveries and 596 fatalities. (1 U.S. dollar = 294.42 Hungarian forints) Enditem
