LIMA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- The Peruvian government extended on Friday the national state of emergency and quarantine in an attempt to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus.
The government order, signed by President Martin Vizcarra, extended the measures until Aug. 31. Peruvians have been under the state of emergency and the quarantine since March 16.
"It establishes that during the extension of the state of emergency, the exercise of constitutional rights relating to personal liberty and security is restricted," the order stated.
With the extension of the state of emergency, the Peruvian government also ordered a national nightly curfew, from 10:00 p.m. to 04:00 a.m. local time, as part of the measures to control the spread of the disease.
Targeted quarantines have been applied in seven regions of Peru, as there has been an increase in cases in these areas and local hospitals are overwhelmed. Enditem
