BISHKEK, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- It is too early to conclude that the COVID-19 situation in Kyrgyzstan has stabilized, Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov said Saturday.

In an interview with state radio, Jeenbekov said that the number of virus-related hospitalizations has been decreasing, and that the COVID-19 situation around the country seemed to be improving.

"This is a good sign; nevertheless, it is still too early to draw hasty conclusions," he said, noting that the situation around the world has not fully stabilized.

"In some countries, quarantine was lifted, and now there is an increase in cases again," he said.

Jeenbekov mentioned that the Kyrgyz people should continually have a responsible attitude toward the current situation, stressing that strict discipline should still be applied.

"The main attention is paid to the issue of providing medicines, preparing our hospitals for the winter period, building new ones, and redesigning old hospitals in accordance with new requirements," Jeenbekov said, adding that the government has been actively working in this direction.

According to official data, 36,299 COVID-19 cases have been registered in the country, with 26,426 recoveries and 1,397 deaths. Enditem
