BOGOTA, Aug. 1 (Xinhua) -- Colombia reported 10,673 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking its total to 306,181, according to the Ministry of Health and Social Protection.

So far, 10,330 people have died of the disease in the country, including 225 over the past 24 hours, the ministry said.

Health Minister Fernando Ruiz said that the first COVID-19 outbreak has been a learning experience and that more outbreaks of the disease are expected in the coming months.

"Learning at the global, country, and city levels. In three months, we have had to learn how to diagnose a disease, monitor it, double the installed capacity of the ICU, use telemedicine mechanisms that we thought we would be using in 10 years, all in the midst of great uncertainty," said Ruiz.

President Ivan Duque said on Tuesday that he had extended quarantine measures throughout the country until Aug. 30. Enditem
