NICOSIA, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- This July has become the hottest month over the last 37 years in Cyprus since related records started to be kept, the country's Meteorological Service said on Monday.

It said that the daily mean temperature of the month was 39.7 degrees Celsius, the highest of any month since 1983.

The Meteorological Service added that July was also the month with the most days when the temperature topped 40 degrees Celsius, and the month with the most warnings, either yellow or orange, for dangerously high temperatures.

Meteorological Service Director Kleanthis Nicolaides added that the highest temperature record has not been broken in July. The record in Cyprus in more than one century was 45.6 degrees Celsius which was set on Aug. 1, 2010.
