KUNMING, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- China's top men's singles player Zhang Zhizhen edged out Li Jianhui in a hard-fought thriller 4-6, 6-4, 20-18 to reach the final eight of the Chinese Tennis Association (CTA) Tour in Anning, Yunan province on Wednesday.

Top-seeded Zhang survived six match points in the deciding tiebreaker and served an ace to secure the victory.

"It's the first time for me to play such a long tiebreaker. I did a better job at serves and baseline play," Zhang said.

Wang Qiang, China's top seed in the women's singles, was knocked out of the tournament after losing 6-4, 4-6, 10-6 against Yang Ziyi in the round of 16.

The world No. 29 Wang had a good start against 22-year-old Yang, whose world ranking is far behind her, and claimed the first set comfortably 6-4.

Yang battled back in the second set 6-4 to level the score, with strong serves and solid baseline play.

In the 10-point tiebreaker, Yang won four points in a row after a 6-6 tie, securing a surprise victory against Wang.

"I didn't know much about my opponent before the game, and I haven't fully adapted to the clay court," Wang said.

Other seeded players in men's and women's singles, including Sun Fajing, Zhang Ze, Han Xinyun and Sun Ziyue progressed into the quarterfinals. Enditem
