German shares edge up Wednesday

FRANKFURT, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- German stocks edged up on Wednesday, with the benchmark DAX index up 59.38 points, or 0.47 percent, to close at 12,660.25 points.

Multinational building materials company HeidelbergCement won the most among the blue chips, with its shares up 3.74 percent. Material manufacturer Covestro and housing association Deutsche Wohnen rose by 3.66 percent and 3.45 percent respectively.

European health care company Fresenius SE lost the most among the blue chips, by falling 5.94 percent. Automotive manufacturer BMW and renal dialysis equipment supplier Fresenius Medical went down both by 3.46 percent.

German insurance and financial services company Allianz was the most-traded share with a turnover of 219.94 million euros (260.72 million U.S. dollars).

China's Haier, a leading global household appliances manufacturer listed in Frankfurt in 2018, gained 1.29 percent to close at 0.80 euros per share on Wednesday. Enditem
