Oman reduces hours of COVID-19 lockdown for public places, shops

MUSCAT, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- The Omani government decided on Wednesday to reduce the daily COVID-19 lockdown of all public places and shops to eight hours from 11 hours.

This was announced by the supreme committee tasked with tackling developments resulting from the coronavirus pandemic after its meeting chaired by Minister of Interior Hamoud Al-Busaidi.

The committee "decided to reduce the hours of the night curfew and the lockdown of public places and shops in all governorates to start from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. from the evening of Aug. 8 until the morning of Aug. 15," said a statement of the supreme committee.

The committee also "decided to end the complete lockdown between governorates starting Aug. 8," it added.

The statement pointed out that the lockdown of Dhofar Governorate, about 1,000 km south of the capital Muscat, will continue until further notice.

Oman reported on Wednesday 585 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 80,286, a statement issued by the Ministry of Health said. Enditem
