BUDAPEST, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- The output of the Hungarian industrial sector fell by 7.8 percent year-on-year in June, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) informed on Thursday.

"In June 2020, the volume of industrial production declined by 7.8 percent year-on-year. Based on calendar adjusted data, the production dropped by 12.2 percent. The economic effects caused by the coronavirus epidemic were still perceptible in this period," KSH said in a report.

The pullback in June is smaller than the 30.9-percent drop in May and an even deeper dive of 36.9 percent in April, when the country was under lockdown to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus.

"Most segments of manufacturing fell in June. Output of vehicle manufacturing, which has the greatest weight in the sector, declined significantly, but output of the computer, electronics and optical equipment segment as well as the food, drink and tobacco products segment rose by a small degree," KSH added.

On a monthly basis, industrial output rose by a seasonally- and workday-adjusted 17.1 percent in June.

"This means that following a low point due to the coronavirus crisis, the recovery in the sector accelerated in June," the online economic daily Portfolio commented. Enditem
